Château Lafite, situated in Pauillac, Médoc, northwest of Bordeaux, has a rich history dating back to 1234 when it was owned by Gombaud de Lafite. In the 17th century, it came under the ownership of the Ségur family, who also acquired the 16th-century manor house that still stands. The French Revolution and Reign of Terror led to the execution of Nicolas Pierre de Pichard in 1794, ending the Ségur family’s ownership. Lafite thrived in the 19th century under the Vanlerberghe family, producing exceptional vintages like the 1795, 1798, and 1818. During World War II, the estate suffered losses as it was occupied by the German army. Éric de Rothschild directed Lafite from 1974 to 2018, succeeded by his daughter, Saskia de Rothschild.

The Château Lafite building itself boasts a rich history, with some parts dating back to 1562, making it one of Bordeaux’s oldest surviving structures. In 1868, the estate encompassed 135 hectares, with 74 hectares dedicated to vine cultivation.
