Summary of Vaduz Castle

Vaduz Castle got its name from the town of Vaduz. The former owners of the castle are known to be builders. In the 12th century, the keep and the parts of the eastern side of the castle were built. The royal family acquired the court in 1712 when they purchased the countship of Vaduz.
This castle faced a war in 1499, and the Swiss Confederacy burned it. The castle went under restoration between 1904 and 1920 and then again in the early 1930s. It became the primary residence of the Liechtenstein royal family in 1938, and it remains their home. That’s why the castle is not open for visitors.
