Picturesquely perched on the rocky cliffs, peeking out on the Irish Sea, the Dunskey Castle is a 16th Century Castle built by the Adairs of Kinhilt. Although all that is left of the castle now is a dilapidated structure, it still entices many visitors for its sheer location and the enchanting feel it provides. Like most castles in Europe, the Dunskey Castle seems to have an exciting history. It is not exactly known when it was built, however, some suggest that it came into existence once the medieval fortified house on the same site was burned down during a local battle. The Dunskey Castle had a short life as some records describe it as a ruined castle since 1684. It is not a national treasure and the access to the inside of the castle is restricted for the safety of the structure.

Dunskey Castle is an L-shaped tower house, standing three storeys and roughly measuring around 30 by 14.3 metres. On its west, there are remains of a possible watchtower that overlooks the sea. There is also a stair tower that is shaped in an L angle. The castle no longer has a roof, but its 1.5 meters thick walls still stand tall. And even though the remains provide limited options to explore, the location of this castle makes up for the missing details.
