Richmond Castle History

Located in the heart of North Yorkshire, England, Richmond Castle was erected by William the Conqueror in 1071. In the centuries to come, the majestic fortress played a significant role in the English Civil War and the reign of King Richard III. 
This Castle was the site of King Richard III’s murder and also the imprisonment of King David of Scotland. During the English Civil War, the Parliamentarians captured the fortress in 1645 after a three-month siege, eventually abandoning it.
